Creating Change

Creating Change teaches students how community advocacy and social innovation work, from the systemic roots of healthcare inequity to grassroots solutions. Students study how community leaders and social entrepreneurs approach problems, then apply those methods to real-world health disparities.

Along the way, they learn to write professional proposals and impact reports. Each student then turns their idea into a Community Change Capstone Project, delivered digitally or in person. Creating Change runs every spring and summer.

Past projects include:

  • Active Appetites, which placed more than 150 health posters in Texas hospitals, pediatric offices and schools.

  • Little Lungs Foundation, which raises awareness of pediatric pneumonia and sells handmade bookmarks and bracelets to fund gifts for pediatric hospital units.

  • Munchnology, which fights nutrition misinformation with science-based content on YouTube, TikTok and Instagram.
