A list of diseases and a brief description:
-
Thyroid Cancer - a type of disease which causes an excess amount of cells to be generated from the thyroid. The cancer causes disruption to the thyroid, an organ that regulates heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, and weight. Doctors are not sure what causes the gene that leads to thyroid cancers, so there is no way to prevent the disease.
-
Leukemia - the overgrowth and crowding of healthy blood cells, causing disruption to blood-forming tissues including bone marrow. There are several treatments for Leukemia, depending on the level of aggressiveness, however, there is no cure.
-
Kidney Cancer - a disease that causes harm to the kidneys, an organ that cleanses toxins from blood, transforms waste into urine, filters minerals, and removes extra fluids from the body. Cancer that has not spread outside of the kidney can be cured by having an operation to remove the organ. Alternatively, cryotherapy or radiofrequency may be used instead.
My literature review will be about:
Thyroid Cancer. I chose to study this specific disease after researching briefly about the thyroid gland and its role in the human body. Throughout my research, I hope to attain a thorough understanding of the causes and components of Thyroid Cancer, as well as the impact it has on the lives of those who suffer with this disease.
